One such compromise involves the lackluster performance of the intercooling system. Our journey began by substantially enlarging the core, surpassing the stock dimensions twofold. The core, with an impressive 4.7-inch thickness, boasts an astounding 169% increase in overall volume, while the external fin surface area experiences a whopping 189% boost, optimizing its heat-rejection properties.

But we didn't stop at mere size enhancement. To ensure smooth airflow through the expanded core, we transitioned to a bar-and-plate core construction. This robust design not only improves flow characteristics but also aids in transferring heat away from the charged air. We bid farewell to plastic end tanks, replacing them with sleek cast aluminum designs that more efficiently guide airflow to and from the piping.

With the Mishimoto Performance Intercooler Kit, it's not just the intercooler that receives an upgrade. We took the liberty of revamping the entire intercooler system. Honda's compromises in the name of mass production also extended to the intercooler piping. The restrictive piping diameters restrict the K20C1's potential for an increased boost through tuning, and the rubber sections are prone to deterioration over time. Our solution involved upgrading these charged air channels with a 2.5" mandrel-bent aluminum cold-side pipe. The rubber sections, including the hot-side pipe, were replaced with five layers of heat-resistant silicone. These modifications enhance airflow and eliminate any worries of boost leaks.
